In reply to: Imran 's message, "5 questions" on 07:33:56 08/03/02 Sat

As Salamu Alaikoum,

Praise be to Allah.

Allaah says in Soorat Luqmaan (interpretation of the meaning):

“And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing) to mislead (men) from the path of Allaah…” [Luqmaan 31:6]

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Among my ummah there will certainly be people who permit zinaa, silk, alcohol and musical instruments…” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari ta’leeqan, no. 5590; narrated as mawsool by al-Tabaraani and al-Bayhaqi. See al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 91).

Thus, music is prohibited in Islam.

In regards to what are the rewards of learning the Quran by heart:

Our Prophet salla Allah alaihi wasallam told us
that “Acquiring the knowledge of Quran and Sunnah is a must on every Muslim and that the Angles are so pleased with the Muslim who pursues this knowledge, they put their wings down for him”. [Agreed upon]

In regards to your siblings being remiss in their duties to Allah, The prophet(saw) said the greatest weapon that we have against the Shaytaan is each other, and if you see your brother doing something wrong you correct him either with your tongue, hand or heart [Bukhari].

So thus you should remind and encourage them to do their duties to Allah.

There is no such things and making up for missed salats. The Prophet(saw) said the only excuse for missing a salat is either forgetfulness or unconsciousness such as sleep [Bukhari and Muslim]

All you can do now is make duaa to Allah asking him to forgive you for neglecting your duties to him in the past. You should also do extra good deeds such as making the nafl prayers or fasting or giving in charity to try to accumulate more good deeds to take with you when you stand before Allah which may help to tip the scale in your favor.

Men are forbidden in Islam for wearing their garments below the ankles for this is an act of arrogance and pride. The Prophet(saw) said prohibited is dragging the garments to the ground [Bukhari and Muslim].
