As Salaamu Alaikoum,

Praise be to Allah.

Bidah means to introduce something new into Islam that the Prophet(saw) did not introduce. This means anything that is not referred to in the Shariaa and for which there is no evidence from the Quran or Sunna. Bidah is dangerous because it destroys the Sunnah and implies that Islam is not complete.

Bidah refers to religious matter, not technology. For example praying a way that the Prophet(saw) did not pray is an act of Bidah, celebrating birthdays is an act of Bidah too because it is something that the Prophet(saw) and his companions never did.

However, driving a car, using a washing machine, these things have nothing to do with religion so they are not acts of Bidah.

Bidah refers to the introduction of any newly invented matters related to drawing one closer to Allah.

The Prophet(saw) said, "Anyone who introduces something new into this religion of ours will have it rejected" [Bukhari and Muslim]

Also the Prophet(saw) said, "The worst of things are those which are newly invented and every innovation is a going astray.." [Muslim]

There is no such thing as Good Bidah..again Bidah destroys the sunnah and implies that our religion was not completed:

"...This day have I perfected your religion for you and completed my favor upon you and have chosen Islam as your religion.." [Quran 5:3]

So for the person who innovates by introducing something into our religion that the Prophet(saw) did not introduce he or she is implying that Allah did not perfect Islam or made a mistake or left something out of it...

May Allah protect us from the innovators!

AND ALLAH KNOWS BEST
