salamualikum.

My question regarding musical instruments. Theres a saheeh hadith in which the prophet (saw) stated that there would be those in his ummah that allowed zina (fornication), silk and musical instruments.

From this hadith it clearly indicates that musical instruments are forbidden whether they are flutes or drums. So my question is how come some people say that drums are allowed. and what sort of drums are allowed.

As Salaamu Alaikoum,

Praise be to Allah.

In regards to drums being used by Muslims, people based this on the following:

The exception to the drum is the Daff which is hand drum that resembles a tamborine without the rings. The prophet(saw) would allow the women to beat the daff during Eids and weddings as evidence by many sahih hadiths.

Shaykh al-Islam (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: But the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) made allowances for certain types of musical instruments at weddings and the like, and he made allowances for women to play the daff at weddings and on other joyful occasions.

AND ALLAH KNOWS BEST
