My friend has a child of zinna. He has repented and asked Allah for forgiveness. What type of relationship can he have with his child? Especially important b/c the mother is non-muslim and the childs only exposure to islam would be from him. He also wants to teach her the error of his ways.
Is it forbidden for him to see her or know her?

As Salaamu Alaikoum,

Praise be to Allah.

Allah says that no soul bears the sins of another and no one is held accountable for what someone else has done.

This man helped to make a child. Every child is born in the Fitra meaning they are born Muslim and the child is not held responsible for the sin of its father:

Narrated Abu Huraira
Allah's Apostle said, "No child is born except on Al-Fitra (Islam) and then his parents make him Jewish, Christian or Magian, as an animal produces a perfect young animal: do you see any part of its body amputated?" Then he recited:

"The religion of pure Islamic Faith (Hanifa),(i.e. to worship none but Allah), The pure Allah's Islamic nature with which He (Allah) has created mankind. Let There be no change in Allah's religion (i.e. to join none in Allah's worship). That is the straight religion; but most of men know not..." (30.30)

Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her), narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The illegitimate child does not bear any part of his parents’ burden of sin. ‘and no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another’ [al-An’aam 6:164 – interpretation of the meaning].” (al-Silsilat al-Saheehah, 2186)

If an illegitimate child dies in Islam (as a Muslim), he will enter Paradise, and his being illegitimate does not have any effect on that, because that was not due to his own actions, rather it was the action of someone else. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

‘and no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another’

[al-An’aam 6:164]

And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

‘Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned’

[al-Toor 52:21]

So thus the child is Muslim and entitled to all that any other child is entitled to. Yes this man should see his child and provide and care for it and raise it to be a believing Muslim who doesnt make the same mistake he made...

AND ALLAH KNOWS BEST
