Before reading this information, I had little understanding of the importance of consistency. After reading though, I do realize that when consistency is practiced, the attractiveness of a site is increased. I have now been noticing consistency incorporated by professionals when I am on the Web.
For my page, I plan to create a place for my second grade students to visit. I do not want it to be a page that requires updating often. I would like to have it be a resource for the kids to use when they want to visit educational sites that correspond with our curriculum. I want the site to provide a multitude of links that both parents and students will find helpful.
I am thinking I would like the background color to be a very pale yellow. The navigation bar and buttons I would like to resemble chalkboards. I was at the CHC lab recently attempting to create rollover images and brainstorm ideas for my page. While there, I made a button that had a dark green background. I made thin white lines evenly spaced across it. I then wrote the subject area on the lines with a bright yellow, resembling chalk. I thought it looked very kid-friendly. To create a rollover effect, I used the eraser tool and partially erased the word, making it still readable but obviously "erased". I liked the look of this. I am not sure if it looks OK when placed on a pale yellow background. I still have to think about that. But so far, this is the direction and style I am planning on.
