The Internet is fast and often flashy. Viewers do not have patience. They want their information NOW. Using white space helps to keep viewers sane! It gives our eyes a chance to rest before we jump to the next site.

There are many reasons to use white space. White space helps create a focal point by leading the eyes. White space makes the text more friendly. It can give the impression of having less to read. White space can also keep the page organized. It directs the eye flow and keeps the information organized.

Here are some sites that make use of white space:

www.wojofoto.com - the white space is used to draw attention to the focal point on the homepage. White space throughout the site gives a clean and sophisticated look.

www.worshiprecs.com - this site is a little unusual. My hair stylist told me to take a look at it just a few days ago (as well as the wojofoto one--good timing). The logo is done using negative art. It makes the logo part of the page and does not draw attention away from the rest of the page.

www.iditarod.com - this site uses a wide column to separate information. There is tons of information packed into this site and the white space is definitely needed to keep it organized.
