I have never thought about the use of white space in a web page until I read the articles on the web. Just as 7-up is the “uncola”, it appears as if white space is the “un-design element” that people need to think about when designing a web page. The articles also stated that the term “white space” is also called open space because on some pages where the background of the page is on another color than white, it can have the same effects as in my first example below.
When designing a web page, one needs to consider the use of white space to do the following:

·Provide organizational help to the material being presented on the page

·Use to draw the eye to important information on the page-text messages and graphics.

·Provide rest to the eye and causes less eye strain than on a “noisy page”.

I thought it was an interesting idea the author made when he said “Lay a dollar bill anywhere, and in any direction, on your page. If it is not touching art or white space, your layout is too dense.”
Here are some examples of some pages that I felt used white space effectively:

This is a website that uses white space, but it is black and very effective and all of the colors used help purvey the product being sold.

White space used to organize and contain information in the site. Interesting that the text is directly over the designs in the white space so that the solid white space is unbroken. Analogous colors used very calming effect with the white space.

The white space on this page is used to focus attention on the very simple circular banner with all of the important information in it.

Top news articles are effectively placed on a white space area drawing your eye there first before you see the menu bars and other choices on the page.

Wow, what a use of white space with primary colors. The white space encloses the important information-very direct and to the point.
