If we simplify this for (hopefully) better communication:

Before these new developments I tried many images but they all pretty much had the right arm consciously extending through impact. The 'release' on these swings felt pretty much like the club speeding down to the ball and then up. The club would rotate to toe up but only after breakdown of the left wrist. On good shots this would happen after impact. On others... There was, I now think, always breakdown then rotate to toe up.

Now as I swing down through impact I make every effort to not let my right arm extend. As I go through impact I feel the club whip out (away from me) to the ball. This whip out also rotates my left arm so that the back of my hand faces the target.

After impact the rotation continues in follow through till the bak of my left hand faces the left (I'm right handed) and the club is toe up. Any breakdown of the left wrist happens after the club is substantially toe up (as it should with IMA).

If you were to hold the club horizontal at 6/100s with a flat left wrist and then imagine the club was resting on a table. Rotate your left arm from palm facing you to palm facing away while holding the club level. This is an EXTREME version of what I feel, but you get the idea. The club head will go away from you and then back to online as your arm rotates.

So the 'horizontal' I mean is not because of the club being horizontal at 6/100s but because the rotation in release seems to go out and through instead of just down and through.

I only get this feeling when I achieve 'pro' level sustaining of the angle. Anything less and it feels vertical (as it did before).

Peter
