Going through old mail I found a card inviting me to test new NG pre-production clubs at a local course. Unfortunately The test date was 2 weeks ago. There was also an offer of a free club fitting consultation.

I am certain that this was a marketing event for the new G3 irons and I was probably on the mailing list because I bought the LTOBG and get the magazine.

From your description of the "Giant" event the diffeence would be to draw from the general golf population as well.

You do raise an interesting point about price. I first learned golf because a local pro was giving lessons as the high school as part of a program of adult recreation/classes. $40 for seven sessions in the gym with mats and plastic practice balls. Bring a 9 iron. Both sessions of his class have been almost full (about 10 - 15 people) every time I've checked. At the end of the session I and a few others who were interested in continuing bought clubs ($200 for a set of Cobra clones). The prices (class & clubs) were right at the level where you never questioned them.

Thinking of this it seems to me that the NG price levels for classes and clubs are geared to those who are already committed to golf. If there were a local NGCI doing what this pro was doing here, there could be about 20-30 new SA golfers in our little local area every year. This local pro has been doing the class for about 10 years! Even given the mobility of residents here that could mean 1000 SA golfers locally. Maybe some NGCIs will see this.

Peter
