Subject: Rain or Shine?

I put on Kit's waterproof saddle pad, warm boots, then English saddle and bridle, practically new. I myself was wearing a velvet helmet, khaki colored, warm breeches, A winter riding sweater, thick rubber boots, and some wool mittens and a wool scarf, and a waterproof jacket over it. It was a cold day, but Kit needed the exercise since she wasn't in extra training for the upcoming shows. We trotted along the winding path, I was searching the sky for any signs of the predicted rain and hail. The sky was pale blue and I wouldn't be out long. I took the path through the wooded mountain up to the large, rolling plain. I took off her bridle to let her graze and drink. I layed down on the soft grass, not realizing the darkening sky. An hour later we were back on the trail. I heard a crack of lightening and it spooked Kit. We were almost home. I trotted her. All of a sudden it started pouring! "That's OK," I thought, "I put on Kit's - " All of a sudden I remembered I forgot to put on Kit's weather proof tack covers! We were almost there, the tack should be able to be repaired if we got there in a few minutes. Soon it started raining harder. I thought the tack was doomed, but I saw the ranch's gate. I quickly trotted Kit into the willow barn. I checked her over carefulle to see if she was hurt. Fortuneatley, she was fine. I took off the tack, boots, and pad. I went to the tack room and got a soft cotton towelto dry of Kit. She was almost completely dry soon. Then I went, got the warmest rug she had and boots and put them on her. Then I lead her to the stall and gave her the evening grain. I turned to the tack. It was beyoned repair. There were large nicks marked from the hail stones, it was soggier than a paper bag in the ocean, and the stirrup leathers fell off in my hands. I turned to the bridle. It to was wery soggy, A hail stone broke the reins of harness leather and the throat piece was slit into pieces and fallen apart. All that money gone. At least Kit was okay. I think I'd die if she got hurt. I turned out of the hall and into the tack room.
