Correct, most don't. If you insist, ASL is probably
a better treatment.

Rule 17.7 is really about the special case of an LOS/LOF
that goes directly down a hexside and how to treat this
case.

In all cases, an MG will NEVER affect more target hexes
than its penetration factor (which is also its firepower
factor), per rule 2.8 and details in 17.5.

All penetration effects only occur in hexes along the
established firing LOS. These penetration target hexes
may be between the firing MG and the target hex. And
they MUST be in hexes beyond any that are targeted, up
to the limit of the penetration factor.

IMHO, the SL treatment is the best MG treatment of ANY
game I have ever played, not necessarily for how it is
applied but in HOW IT MODIFIES and EFFECTS the
PLAY OF the INVOLVED GAMERS!

Yeah, I'm hooked. :-)
