Subject: Firewall-1 works like this...
In reply to: jj 's message, "I don't see anything. Our provider here must have something going on. Aggravating." on 14:57:31 02/21/02 Thu

We set up a rule in our firewall which uses a software "server" component from a company called Websense. This is a subscription service which gets updated every night and uses categories which the admin can choose to activate for blocking. For example, The Sierra Club is blocked because it's considered an "activist" site.

Do you have any idea what your co. is using for firewall? Is it a software based setup or hardware based? And do they use some kind of subscription service? That's where I'd check.

I'm sure it had something to do with those dickwads. In other news, my provider at the house now offers T-1 speed for almost nothing. Giddyap!! -- jj, 08:25:51 02/22/02 Fri

[> [> [> [> [> [> At home I use Charter (who is a cable outfit). They offer an upgrade from 512K to 1500K for only about $20 a month over what I pay now. I've heard a lot of good things about the new satellite setups though. Definitely check into the satellite if you're in the boonies -- jj, 09:01:16 02/22/02 Fri
