The mother of this deceased republican said he was not depressed or suffering from any mental illness. That he was a strong man totally committed to his political principles. His sister said on Radio Foyle that as he was being arrested he told her, "Don't worry, we have gone through worse times than these". All this is causing concern locally and gets no better when we read that his solicitor wants any investigation to tackle the question, was the prisoner visited in his cell by PSNI Special Branch who were pressing him to become a paid informer? All this hardly smacks of suicide as claimed yesterday by the RUC/PSNI We now await a report later to-day after the medical examination of the body, which one hopes will involve genuine and independent professionals.
