."Her name's Alys," he said, and walked out as soon as she was done speaking. Ten minutes later he came back with a few scratches, and a puma carrying a large dead rabbit in her mouth trailing behind proudly. He smiled slightly as he sat down, with Alys curled up beside him. She dropped the rabbit into his hand, and he speared it on a sharpened piece of wood he'd been carrying when he came in. It wasn't such a good point, being carved with a pocket kinfe in the short walk back, but it was enough. He set it down just outside the pit, stroking the cougar's head gently.
