I was actually not a winning bidder in the auction for the Sony LX 920, but contacted S-O-N soon after the auction ended and placed an order over the phone using my American Express card. I was so excited about the deal that I let my guard and common sense down a little bit.
They promised me delivery no later than March 11. It seems to me, after calling a couple of different times and talking with different people that they probably have a written statement about their company and how they operate right in front of them so that they sound legitimate. The two people I talked with said the same exact thing. I mean, there wasn't any deviation at all, nor was there any additional info that they provided. They had one story and stuck with it. The second person I talked with sounded less convincing to me. After he was explaining how they operate he said something like "and that's how the system works". I thought it was a little odd to talk about your business operations as a system. It made me think that he's probably talking about their scam, which is a system that they have probably worked out very well.
What I believe now is that they have stretched the delivery time as much as they can so that they will have more time to get as many buyers as they can before complaints start coming in about not receiving shipment. And I betcha they are planning on pulling the plug on this scam prior to March 11. That way, no one has the right (including American Express and PayPal) to complain until that time. By the time complaints start rolling in, they're long gone. At least, that's what my gut is telling me.
I requested today for them to cancel my order. They emailed me back instructing me to call them in person to cancel. I tried a couple to times today but was unsucessful in getting through. I will try again tomorrow. I will follow up with everyone and let you all know if they give me any problems with cancelling the order. I actually believe that they won't give me any problems at all. If my hunch is right, then what I believe is that they don't want any waves right now. They want as much business as possible without any friction prior to March 11. However, who knows??
I wish you all the best of luck, and I will follow up with you all on this forum with additional info as I get it.
