 I arrived at Sampson on June 23, 1945 also. Can remember sleeping on the floor the first night a Saturday and loafing around until issued clothing and another physical on Monday. I was in a lower barracks in Eunit. Our comp-any commander was named Bacon. Left there to Charleston Naval Air Station (they were making it into a separation center) and then on the USS Jarvis DD 799.
