One thing you should have done differently is that you're supposed to wait about 10-15 minutes for the sample to liquefy. It doesn't really matter if it's thick or not at first, but it needs to be almost watery before you draw it into the syringe.

I've never heard of anyone using pre-seed for AI. I know it's not supposed to damage sperm, but I wouldn't use anything, unless you absolutely need some lubricant.

Volume doesn't matter - if you order frozen sperm, they typically split the donation into 4 or 10 vials, and you only get about 0.5ml which includes extender.

It's normal for the volume to go down btw, but ignore that. Only 5% of semen is sperm, and it's the count, motility and morphology of the sperm that's important, and you can't measure those without getting a Semen Analysis done.

Don't assume anything goes wrong if it takes a few cycles to get pregnant - these things take time... Count down the days to the next insemination, rather than till when your period's due.
