right. i mean, i can CERTAINLY relate to the frustration!!! i've tried and failed so many times that it's amazing i have anything left, but i refuse to blind myself to the fact that i CAN improve my health and get more comfortable in my skin if i can just, finally get motivated to make all the necessary sacrifices.

motivation is a tricky thing, however. i gained back all of a 70 lb weight loss back in 1995, but holy hannah what a year that was!!! i found out this guy i was nuts about was gay, my grandmother (who i was very close to) passed away, my mother broke 12 years of sobriety and ended up in the hospital.... it just seemed like i couldn't turn around without something hideous happening!!! who gives a shit about weight loss when all that is going on??? it's tough to stay motivated under any circumstances with all the sights and smells and advertising we're subjected to everyday, but when parts of your life are exploding, it's pretty near impossible!!!

currently, i work at a job i just LOVE (and PLEASE GOD let it go permanent!!!) where they buy me lunch every day. that's a hell of a perk, but i gotta say that it SUCKS to have to order salad and grilled chicken every day when everyone else is getting pasta and chinese food!!!

i actually think that the SA movement would be better off if we began recognizing that MOST of us would prefer to be thinner, but that if that's not something that's possible for us right now, that's ok. i don't think we should judge each other for being fat, for pity's sake, but i don't think we should judge each other for wanting to lose weight, either!!! i think the best gift we can give each other is acceptance, support and appreciation for ALL that we are.

> You *can*
> accept yourself but still try to better yourself.

ABSOLUTELY!!! and isn't that true of every aspect of life??? not only concerning how we view ourselves, but how we view each other??? i mean, my mom can be real manipulative upon occasion, but i love her anyway. my sister can be overly critical, but i love her, too. I'M a slob ;-) but i'm also a really sweet person. we all know things about ourselves and each other that we're not that crazy about, but we can still be accepted, loved and appreciated for the totality of who we are.

> It's
> like a paralyzed person who accepts his/her injury but

yes and that's another thing!!! (as i make a long post even longer....) i wish to heaven that we, AS A SOCIETY, would learn to see obesity as a MEDICAL PROBLEM!!!!! it is NOT A MORAL FAILING!!!!! yes, i have cravings that are beyond my control when i allow myself to eat certain foods. THIS IS A BIOCHEMICAL RESPONSE!!!!! and exactly why it occurs is still not known. even the fact that i "allow" myself to eat certain foods is only evidence that i'm human, for chrissake, unable to resist 100% of the NUMEROUS temptations that are around me ALL the time!!! i think the willpower i DO exercise shows that i have a lot more than most people, and i think that can be said of many if not all of us in the fat minority.

ok, did someone mention "babbling"?????

;-)
