I've replied to my own message - must get out more!
Agree with outsider - Carter is a must to retain. His experience and quality have bee evident all season (needs to polish his kicking from hand a bit tho)
I also think Bevon Armitage is a must. Made a huge difference to the midfield both with and without the ball - what we've been needing in the centres for a few seasons IMO; a big hefty lump who only know how to go forward. I also though Andy Reay's game improved with Armitage outside him too.
Would be very pleased to see Ryan DLH back in red and black next season - I thought he came on brilliantly when he got a run of starts to settle in.
I'm not sure about Brad Davies - he was obvioulsy brought in to do a job i.e. provide better game management and created and scored some good tries. I'm just a bit worried by the ammount that he doesn't do as a flyhalf. Quite often swapped position defensively and to get Ollie in at 1st receiver in ourown half. Doesn't take kicks for touch from pens etc. Was obviously Caskie's choice of flyhalf - I wonder if he would have been Maggs'?
I for one seriosly hope Ollie is given a good run at 10 next season. Playing him on the wing is a waste of his abilites and leaves us short of a finisher out wide. It's not an option for the coming season and I hope his early retention signals a move to a more sensible use of his talents.
As for the rest of the backs it's hard to make any sort of judgmenent given the apparently erratic selection policy this season. Far too many players just not getting any rugby on a consistent basis or getting the chance to form effective partnerships.
As to the pack - I'd be quite happy to see all of them stay. The stalwarts proved themselves to be just that and there's plenty more to come from the young guns I'm sure.
Any thoughts?
