Subject: farewell to this old message board

Sadly, it's time to bid farewell to this old message board, and pass on the baton to the newly re-invigorated Supporters Association who will run a much improved board along with their website.
This board first started in February 2002, leading the campaign to keep Mose in Brum. Since then it has carried news of promotions & relegations; arrivals & departures; great wins & strange losses; births, deaths, & marriages; the rumours, arguments, fantasies and facts that make life with Moseley so entertaining. Since then coaches, players, stands, oppositions and even whole grounds have come and gone. Our opposition at the time included Rugby Lions, Manchester, Newbury, Bracknell and Orrell. We've not faired too badly by comparison have we?

So thanks to (nearly) all contributors for keeping it lively, may we continue to “live in interesting times” for the next nine years.

Message Board - change of format and location

New Location
Following recent suggestions the message board facility has been updated and is now available: http://moseleysupporters.proboards.com

This board 'frozen' soon
This board (Voy Forums) will be ‘frozen’ in the next few weeks and we will then request that all postings are made on the new board. This is being administered by the MSA (Moseley Supporters Association) and will require registration.

Registration remains 'private'
As always, the personal details will not be made available to any 3rd parties.

General Area and 'Section' areas
The new board has facilities for ‘general’ chat as well as messages specific to the various sections in the club. It also has a ‘guest’ section which doesn’t require registration.

This is designed to make it easy for visiting supporters to request information or provide information on an occasional basis without the need to register etc.

Boards in parallel for a while
The two boards will work in parallel for a short period in case of any posting issues. We hope you enjoy the new board!

Instant Posting & 'Unwanted' Users
Anybody who signs up is able to post straight away, but you will of course require an email address for confirmation. There is also a warning system for ‘unwanted’ users.

Visiting Supporters Welcome
Visiting supporters are more than welcome on the 'visitor' section. Here they can ask questions etc without the need to register. We do of course welcome visiting supporters to the other sections of the board – but they will need to register.

Calendar and Help
The calendar is also a great feature as everyone will be able see what is happening at the clubhouse and when.
Neil from the MSA is up at the clubhouse tonight if anybody wants a quick chat or a quick ‘show and tell’.

Questions or queries
Any queries or questions please email either

The following will be added to the website shortly. A 'Moseley Matters Special' is also due out today and will confirm the appointments.

MOSELEY RUGBY CLUB
*****PRESS RELEASE******
31-May-2011

“Craig West joins Kevin Maggs at Moseley”

Moseley has pleasure in announcing the appointment of Craig West as assistant to the new Moseley Head Coach Kevin Maggs and of Chris Kemp as a full time Strength and Conditioning Coach.

There are few coaches around with more experience of England’s second tier than Craig West whose knowledge not only of forward play but also of the role of Director of Rugby provide the perfect foil to the newly appointed Maggs.

Craig played for Rotherham in the back row over a 14 year period in the club’s rise through the leagues before becoming the club’s Academy Manager along with coaching Yorkshire’s highly successful U20s side. He was Rotherham Head Coach from November 2007 until April 2010.........and just to keep his hand in recently played for Sheffield Tigers in National 3 North.

West was also Maggs’s first ‘Head Coach’ at Rotherham in the 2009/10 season and this partnership was part of the plan put to the Moseley directors during the recruitment process.

West said “I’m delighted to be joining the new playing management team at Moseley and of having the opportunity to work with Kevin Maggs again. He was a great support to me when I was head coach at Rotherham and I am looking forward to returning the favour at this famous Midlands club.”

Craig is joined in the new playing management structure by Chris Kemp who will be the full time Strength and Conditioning coach with the objective of creating a fully professional environment for the 1st XV squad.

Chris said “I am very pleased to be joining a great club like Moseley and look forward to increasing performance levels from previous seasons which we aim to be reflected in improved results on the field. I think my previous involvement with other rugby clubs and with other sports will hopefully provide the experience to do this”.

Chris joins Moseley with significant experience of strength & Conditioning gained with the Swedish RFU (2009 – 2011), as well as implementing a Strength & Conditioning Development Programme with Leicester Tigers (2007 – 2011) during which time he worked with Birmingham and Solihull (2007 – 2009).

Interestingly Chris also was performance coach for BMW Italia rider James Toseland (2010 – 2011) in the World Super Bike Series. He arrives with a University of Essex degree in Sport and Exercise Science (2006).

It's unlikely that any players in the first team squad next season will be players from our own system.Bar the odd one or two. We will be a squad of bought in players. Our youth has no chance, the club can't believe they could be good enought.
But who knows? Maybe we can get Glos / Worcs /Northhampton connection again. That will inspire our colts/mini/juniors.

I'm personaly of sick this club taking the credit for players getting on, like the Glos boys who are doning so well, we say it's because of us, yeah what ever!

I hope next season we have a coach who will develope our players, because uptill know it's the players who really have got the results.

Moseley Oak win Dukes 10s Tournament –The Netherlands
Win dedicated to Sam Yarwood

Moseley Oak (including some former Moseley Colts) participated in the prestigious Dukes 10s yesterday (Sunday 29th May) and came away as winners.

They played 6 matches in the tournament in the Dutch city of Hertogenbosch – located half way between Eindhoven and Utrecht . The final, against the hosts (Dukes Rugby Club from Den Bosch), was a very tough, physical game won by Moseley 15-10 in front of a crowd of over 300.

Charley Thomas, Matt Tibbatts and Ben Pons were outstanding while Clark Hands dominated the lineout. The Dukes team contained three Dutch internationals - including one who played against England at the McAlpine stadium.

The victory was dedicated to Sam Yarwood who had booked to come on the tour. It was therefore appropriate that the trophy was collected by his best friend, Sam Brent- along with Captain, Jack Richards.

Tournament results and photos due soon at www.dukesrugby.nl/

Back to the other nonsense.
All these silly posts under assumed names have drawn attention away from the important business that ought to go on on the board at this time of year - groundless speculation about player recruitment.
For those who don't frequent Rolling-Maul.com (I can't undrerstand why anyone wouldn't) there have been a couple of suggestions that Craig West may be looking to renew his partnership with Kevin Maggs but in reverse; i.e. West to work with Maggs as forwards coach (whereas Maggsy was his bakcs coach when he was DoR at Roth).
A very well respected forwards coach by all accounts and many at Roth were disappointed to see him resign as DoR.

I also gather that we may potentially be suffering further disappointment rgarding another key player moving on. Sorry if that sounds absurdly vague but I won't say more out of respect for the conifdence in which I received the info. The same source also suggests we may be seeing some more bright local talent coming in to our back row and back line but wasn't as definite on that as the possible departure.

Moseley Rugby Club and Friends Charity and Fundraising Canal Walk and Family Fun Day Out
Barbeque and Bouncy Castle back at the Clubhouse from 5.00pm onwards. Welcome the Walkers back
Saturday 25h June 2011
For Cure Lukaemia
In memory of Jessica Maggs

Moseley Rugby Club have teamed up with “Cure Lukaemia” a local charity, who are based at the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
Our walk will be in memory of Jessica Maggs, daughter of our new Head Coach Kevin Maggs, who sadly passed away recently.
Moseley first team players and coaching staff have promised to support the day, so why not come and join them?
It is a great day out walking along the canals from Mary Ardens house, just outside Stratford, to Yardley Wood bridge (over the road from the bus garage), which is about ½ mile down the Yardley Wood Road from Moseley Rugby Club. It is a very enjoyable way to spend a few hours and also a great way of raising money for worthwhile causes.
Itinerary for the day.

1. Meet 8.00am at Moseley Rugby Club, Yardley Wood Road, Billesley, Birmingham B13 0TP
2. We will then transport you to the canal side near Mary Ardens House to start the walk at approximately 9.15am.
3. There will be several places to stop ( including 5 or 6 pubs) on route, but it is highly recommended that you bring the following:
Drinking Water, a light snack, sun cream, sun hat or waterproof jacket (if the weather is a bit dodgy) . Please wear good shoes and sensible clothing.

There will be service vehicles that will follow us on our route and they will stop not only at the pubs but also at convenient points (18 in total on route) and they will be contactable by mobile phone if needed in an emergency. They will also have water on board, although you can always top-up at one of the pubs.

Lee Evans, Dave Warren and Paul Bracken will act as last men to make sure everyone is Ok and no one is left behind (especially in one of the pubs).

It is anticipated that the first ones back will be at Yardley Wood Road at around 4.00 to 5.00pm. You will be met again by mini-buses who will take you back to Moseley Rugby Club where there will be a barbeque and of course the bar will be open for those who haven't had enough. Lee, Dave and Paul will obviously be the last ones back to make sure everyone has arrived back safely.

When you get back, meet friends and family. We are having a barbeque and there will be entertainment for the younger ones, a bouncy castle and no doubt many tales of woe from the walkers. You don’t have to do the walk, just come and enjoy the day and meet the players and coaching staff, plus all the walkers.

Our two charities this year are:-
Cure Lukaemia, a local charity based at the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital and The Moseley Community Foundation. You will be given a t-shirt to wear on the day and maybe a baseball hat (we are hoping to get a sponsor, anyone interested?) Please bring your filled in sponsorship forms on the day so that we can work out roughly what we have raised for the Charities. Last year we raised over £2000-00 for Midlands Air Ambulance and £1800-00 for the Moseley Community Foundation. Our charities this year are both worthy causes so please collect as much sponsorship as possible.

Most of all have a great day, (all we need is a bit of sunshine), but please act sensibly and have respect for your fellow walkers and other canal users. One of us will be carrying a bucket to collect on the way, so don’t upset the locals.

It is very important that we keep track of the number for people who are doing the walk so that we can make sure we have enough buses and enough food, etc…
Please collect your sponsorship form at the bar, and leave your name, address and a contact number or e-mail address, so that we can keep you updated and record the number of people taking part.
The walk is open to everyone, but we MUST know the numbers to make sure the day runs smoothly. THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT…
If you require any further information or extra sponsorship forms, please contact
Lee Evans on 07803 182568 or e-mail lee@pinstripegroup.co.uk or Dave Warren 0121 440 3443 or Moseley Rugby Club or Bill Redwood our superb steward..

THANK YOU for all your support

MOSELEY RUGBY CLUB
*****PRESS RELEASE******
19-May-2011
“Kevin Maggs confirmed as new Moseley Head Coach”

Moseley has pleasure in announcing the appointment of former Irish International centre Kevin Maggs as head coach.

A spokesman for Moseley said:
“Nearly fifty applications for the Head Coach position were received, many of them from high quality coaches with experience at the highest levels of the game in a number of different countries. Among them, Kevin Maggs submitted a compelling presentation about his plans for the future and how he would take the club forward.

Kevin’s experience in working as Moseley Assistant Coach last season and having the confidence of the players was also a factor in the deliberations. The club’s recruitment subcommittee determined that there was no one with that much better potential who would justify destruction of the principle of promotion from within the club wherever possible.

It was therefore unanimous in recommending to the club’s Board the appointment of Kevin as Head Coach. The sub committee did look at combining the abilities of different outstanding applicants although ultimately considered that their different aspirations would not best meet the club’s objectives.

Moseley would like to thank all those who submitted applications and for their interest in being part of the revival of our great club”

Kevin Maggs said
“I am delighted to have been provided with this opportunity at this famous club which needs to be back at the forefront of the game in this country. Hopefully I can assist towards that goal and continue the progress made by successive coaches over recent years.

I’m particularly pleased to have been given the vote of confidence by the management and directors of the club with whom I have enjoyed an excellent relationship over the last past nine months or so.

Following recruitment last season we have a nucleus of good players now and with a couple of prudent additions, we are hopeful of moulding them into a competitive force in the Championship and realising their potential.

Certainly the improvements in results since last Christmas and the four game league winning streak at the end of the season and the foundations which Ian Smith and I laid down give some confidence towards meeting that objective”.

The 70 capped former Irish International joined Moseley as backs coach for the 2010-11 RFU Championship season assisting Head Coach Ian Smith. Following his impressive International career, the 70 cap international Kevin started his coaching while a player/coach at Rotherham in the 2009/10 season.

He took on the responsibility of developing the back line at Moseley during the early part of last season following the appointment of Don Caskie as national coach to Georgia in preparation for the Rugby World Cup.

Confirmation in an official Press Release issued by The RFU this afternoon and the website will be updated shortly. Moseley Matters will also confirm in this week's edition.

Moseley Colts are seeking to appoint a committed, dynamic and enthusiastic individual to augment their coaching team. The ideal candidate will have excellent all-around knowledge of the game with particular reference to the requirements of modern back play. An appropriate RFU coaching qualification, or the ambition to work towards this, is essential.
You will be expected to attend practice sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and be available on match days (predominantly Saturdays).
The position does not carry a salary although some help with travel expenses could be made available to the right person.
This represents a rare opportunity to work with some of the best young players in the region and develop your own coaching skills in the environment of a Championship level rugby club.
To express an interest please send a one page (A4) CV to moseleycolts@virginmedia.com to arrive no later than Friday 27th May 2011.

Well, that time of year has come, the season has ended and the list of jobs put off through the winter is looming on the horizon. How about a bit of harmless fun with a fantasy recruitment challenge.
Who do you think is likely to be retained in the squad for the coming season and who would you like to see come in (perhaps a player from Colts who's really impressed someone who's played against us etc)
Person with the squad nearest to the actual in August wins a warm glow of smug satisfaction (No points for Ollie, Chevy, Maltman and Voisey obviously!)

Subject: Vacancies within the colts' structure

Author:
Simon Bartlett
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: "Tue, May 10 2011, 19:36:08 GMT"

The following 'vacancies' have arisen within the colts' management team.

FIXTURES SECRETARY
We need someone to organise the fixtures and referees for U17s and U19s and keep our fixtures pages on the club website up-to-date. This will mean working closely with team managers and coaches to understand requirements and close liaison with opposition counterparts. As both teams are in cup competitions and leagues, much of the preliminary fixture arranging is completed by the organising bodies so the role does not really take a great deal of time and can mostly be done from home by email and ‘phone (the only caveat being an occasional meeting with our team officials to confirm arrangements etc). The role does, though, need someone who is diligent and accurate within an administration role.

PR/ PRESS OFFICER
This is a new role.
I am looking for someone to work closely with me to write match reports and act as a conduit between the colts and the wider club communications team so that those reports get posted on the website and into Moseley Matters. Someone with a degree of diplomacy would be ideal for this role! Additionally, given the nature of the task, it would be useful if it were someone who could come to Thursday night training sessions, if only for a short while and attend our games, mainly on Saturdays.
Additionally, I would very much like the photographs that many of the parents take at matches to be posted on the website; the person who undertakes this role would be the logical choice for collating photographs and making sure they get posted. Access to the colts’ pages of the website will be arranged.

We are probably looking for an ‘adult’ to undertake these roles – a parent/ relative/ guardian of a current player, most likely, but I am not ruling anything out and will be happy to discuss either role more fully with anyone who expresses an interest. For example, there may be a 'Media' type student out there who could use this experience as part of their practical studies.

Both of the above roles roles are, I think, essential to continue the on-going great work that goes on within our group and our ambition to provide the players with a professional environment. It may be worth pointing out that, in line with everyone else connected with our management team, you will be undertaking these roles for the love of sport, not a remuneration package!!

To register an interest in either role please email me: moseleycolts@virginmedia.com in the first instance. I will be more than happy to have a subsequent conversation about either of these roles to expand on, or clarify anything about which you may be unsure.
Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you.,

Simon Bartlett.
Chair of Youth Rugby.

For all those that know us (apologies to those that don't), baby Isobel was born on Friday 6th May - only 14 days late !

We are all doing well, despite the lack of sleep. I maybe biased but she's a beauty!!

Have a good summer and see you soon.

Its true,Leeds only go down if wuss win promotion.Pirates get into this position of a final but you ask yourself ,whats the point? The championship season ends a month earlier than any other league due to lack of teams (RFU decision ).Bristol and Bedford playing a maor final (HA HA)on a Saturday at 5.15pm.Is it working RFU ,is it heck, the whole structure is a joke.
