Subject: Matt speaks RE: State setlist Author: Matt [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 07:04:00 04/14/02 Sun Ello peeps, tis Matt the humble bass player here giving his opinions on the state setlist....now is the time to be critical, tis the only way that we can improve as a band so feel free to agree or disagree with anything I say... Desiderium - Great song....a bit long perhaps but it matters not. My fav lyrics too, they're quite fabaroo. Amenities - A nice collection of riffs but it dosnt seem to work as a song...the middle eight is great, as is the verse. The song also lacks a vocal line...which the exception of the 'i will not look down' bit, shame because lyrically its really good. Alone & Abrasive - Its short which is good...lol...but still I don't like it much...meh t'is ok i suppose... Sweet Little Circus Geek - I still cringe at the title hehe. Fab song musically, lyrically :o| dont...understand... Little Abuse Me - Fun to play live...although its not representative of us at all. Meh. Ruin - ewww...glad we dropped it...but saying that I like the lyrics and the ending riff is one of our best. Goodbye - no-one seems to like this but in my opinion its our most complete song...its quite short for us (3mins30secs) plus its catchy both musically and lyrically. Pictures - I hate this song so much....but unfortunatly it contains our best riff. I'd love to rewrite this, salvaging that riff. It's a 6 minute song and thats 3 minutes too long a mon avis. The chorus sounds like outside by stiltskin, the vocal line is boring, the main melody gets boring after the 543878098 time of playing it and in my humble opinion its our weakest lyric. ----------------------------------- Other songs: Rubber Dice - A fab new song....short and sweet with both a catchy vocal line and great riffs...something which we find hard to create. Starcross Roadkill - I love this song but we never play it live because of its mellowness....shame.. Yeah, so, out of all of our songs I personally think the only ones worth Keeping are Desiderium, Circus Geek, Goodbye, Rubber Dice and Starcross...Without trying to blow our own trumpet too much we are a good band and should raise our standards as such.
