In the heat of an Australian summer there is little risk of rot if one's plants are watered (not to heavily)immediately after repotting. In fact in extremely hot dry conditions, watering is probably of benefit. Our smaller plants especially are far more likely to suffer from heat and water stress than from rot. Much of what is written about watering of succulents is suited to cool/cold northern European conditions not our hot summers. Having said this one should use a few precautions. Do not damage roots and of course do not keep plants overly wet. I grow many species of mesembs as well as other succulents and I regularly water after repotting with impunity. Many of my plants are extremely tricky species to cultivate but they do not rot. Only weak and badly grown plants will be at risk after repotting. Watering-in allows soil to settle around our plants roots eliminating any air pockets that can dehydrate and kill roots. Regards Didge
