ill e-mail you

re: Save the world? hell no!
Thats a political battle after all
If egos and politics werent in the way the world wouldnt need saving , we could just sit down and work it out.

No rather i would simply like to progress the idea
My interest was sparked by a friends nursery business in Geraldton WA where she has a range of seedlings from between select Cereus peruvianus clones collected at a research station in the negev desert. Amazing range of fruits of all colours, sizes, textures. such an amazing resource any one could become a commercial clone.
Ive also seen tha various opuntia species and other succulents persisting around old humans settlements in the wheatbelt, healthy as can be even at the end of a long dry summer when even the native vegetation is sufferring
This and just seeing how resilient succulents are to variable but overall arid climates has impressed me that farming and landscaping with them is safe money for australia as we see more droughts and a general drying with global warming.
I dont like potted cacti anymore than i like caged birds
Id prefer to build a garden/landscape where the right species of succulent can be used to my advantage for shelter, fencing, food, medicine or some kind of economic advantage.
I even envisage that clonal plants like some agave might be used for 'Pharming' important medicines if the necessary genetic sequences are introduced.
If were going to have to live with water restrictions forever now then wed better get moving and find some creative solutions to it cos what we do with arid lands now is a crime with them turning to gibber
