Dear Garry, Few succulents are easier to transplant than Nolina or Beaucarnia. Just dig them up and move them at any time; mid summer to autumn is fine. You will find the roots are easily cut using a shovel. The roots tend to grow only near the edge of the caudex. Just cut them all the way around the plant and you will find it easy to literally push it out of the ground. The uprooted plant can be left out of the ground for months before it is planted so there is no rush to replant it in a pot. Ian Hay
