Subject: sick (cooked?) Cactus

Hi
I am a novice Cactus owner. Yesterday I bought a 1 metre Euphorbia Trigona (to use as a Christmas tree!!!). I had to leave it in a parked car for about two to three hours. In that time it was very hot, and of course inside the car it was rather humid. When I got the cactus home, the top 8 centimetres or so had become very limp, several segments actually falling over. it is now on a very sunny terrace, a real heat trap. Will it recover its firmness on its own, or should I remove the damaged segments, or should I give it some other treatment?

Could it be that I am such a gardener as to even destroy a cactus? My apologies to the cactus lovers of this world for leaving a cactus in a parked car.

An email response would be appreciated.

Many thanks

John Napier
