Well, my large clump of Stapelia gigantea, which measures about 1.5 metre square, has just been through five days straight of minimum temperatures between minus six and minus three, and it looks none the worse for it. I guess the grass temperature out there would be more in the range of minus ten to minus thirteen! Generally every winter the growing tips get nipped and a few stems rot out, but new growth always resumes with the spring. By mid-summer the clump is covered in large, wonderfully smelly flowers again!
