Subject: bones and stuff

Okay, I had the long awaited DEXA scan today. I was back in my car within 30 minutes, including registration. By the time I was comfortable, it was time to leave...I was wanting to lay there a little longer

I'm "low" but within normal limits...but given my age, it's not normal. The did a sample of my left hip and 4 of my lumbar vertebrae. A T-score of -1 or lower signified osteopenia. My hip was -.76 ; 3 of my verts were within the .80-.95 range with the other vert being over -1. I forget my total average number but you get the gist. She said that at my age it should not be neg at all given that I have many years before menopause...and that's when bone loss accelerates. Funny thing is that I have participated in some sort of weight bearing activity for a majority of my life...hate to see what it would be like then.

So, don't know what the doc will do. A common Rx is fosomax...sounds icky...nausea, esophageal issues such as heartburn.
