I actually thought about cutting, as my friend has experience cutting springs and stuff, and said thats not a good idea....also thought about heating up the springs and compressing them, which works but if you dont like it ur screwed...SO when i put my 17" rims on i put those spring compressor/clamps on which lowered about 1.5 inches on my 94....i bought them from auto zone, or some place like that. really cheap way to do it and i have seen no bad effects from it. They are pretty hard to put on...you need an array of tools, which if you are doing something like this you should have anyway. A few others have done it this way, but im looking for something that will lower it some more...email this guy. Fast_vette@hotmail.com , he says he is getting lowering springs from overseas for the 1st gen d' . He is still in the process of getting the pricing info and all that though. If you have a 2nd gen. d', Eibach makes some springs but i do not know the specs. on them, i dont think its anything spectacular, probably an inch.
