In three short weeks, Sahar Biniaz will be crowning her successor as the next Canadian Ambassador of beauty. Who amongst these 60 delegates will be crowned Miss Universe Canada 2013? Well, in all honesty this year seems to be a lot weaker in terms of competition, than in the past…BUT, there are some very obvious stand outs who could easily do well in the international competition. With a transformation and some hard work, we could very well see a Miss Universe placement, FINALLY, after Alice Panikian in 2006. With that being said here are the girls that I think have a good chance in placing.
I’ve only chosen 10 ladies (in no particular order), simply because they are the ones who truly stand out to me at this point. This will obviously change once we see the preliminaries.
ALBERTA, Kathryn Kohut
From the pictures I’ve seen so far, Kathryn is one sexy lady. All the photos of her involve some type of modelling in different bikinis. We can easily see that one of her strongest assets is her physical shape. Facially, she’s also very strong in that department so I think that she will definitely stand out in this particular group of ladies. I don’t quite see her winning the title just yet, but she definitely has the potential to do so.
ONTARIO, Alexandra Matthews
Alexandra started “liking” my photos on instagram prior to her GTA. I did a little creeping and I was surprised to see that she was an delegate competing for a delegate spot in MUC. There’s something about Alexandra that I really like. I find her very elegant and poised. I thought that her evening gown during the GTA’s was gorgeous and she totally stood out. She does however, need to continue to tone up for MUC, but other than that, I like her overall look. I’ve seen quite a few of her candid photos, and she is a very naturally, pretty girl. I think she’s going to make an impact!
ONTARIO, Michelle McKay
Michelle is another one of those delegates I know very little of. But on the contrary, this girl has an amazing body and takes an excellent photograph. She’s very photogenic! Based on the pictures I’ve seen so far, I think that she will make the Top 12. If she has an outgoing personality and is very personable, then I’m sure the organization would love to put another Ontario girl in the Top 5. Nonetheless, Michelle looks very pretty overall.
ONTARIO, Sarah Faraone
Sara was one of my choices for the GTA preliminaries, and it’s easy to see why. Aside from having a gorgeous face and a great body, she truly is one of the stronger competitors coming from the GTA. I can only see potential based on photos, simply because I don’t know what her personality is like. Appearance wise, she looks great and I expect to see her name called into the Top 12 based on that, alone.
ONTARIO, Denise Garrido
Denise is the first of our two double crown holders competing at Miss Universe Canada this year. She was an obvious stand-out at the GTA pageant, probably with the most stunning face in her court. Personally, although Denise has a lot of work in physical aspect of the competition, she is one of the strongest delegates, facially. She has an infectious beauty, that you can’t help but stare at her. I’ve met her in person, and she’s lovely, tall and striking. I think that if she continues to transform her body, she will be a force to reckon with in the international arena. My only concern about her, is the fact that she has held the titles of MWC and MEC, so I don’t know how MUC will feel about that. But as an overall competitor, Denise is gorgeous and we should easily see her amongst the Top 12.
ALBERTA, Riza Santos
Riza Santos is UNDENIABLY, the most gorgeous Asian delegate competing at the pageant this year. There is absolutely no way that she’ll be missing the Top 12. Riza is a very well seasoned delegate with the potential to do big things at an international pageant…BUT, like Denise Garrido, she too, has also had two opportunities to represent Canada at in international competition; Miss World and Miss Earth. This could be a disadvantage for her, because MUC may want some new blood representing them internationally, but I have to be honest. Even though Riza is a double crown holder, she simply is too strong of a competitor to be snubbed and I would question MUC, if that were to happen. I love Riza and I am cheering for her all the way. I just hope that the judges at MUC, give her that opportunity to prove that she is more suited for Miss Universe. In terms of her overall look, she’s been working really hard to look amazing, and I know that when she arrives at the competition, she will be an instant front runner for the title. Easily a competitor to keep an out on, because she’s more than ready to take on the challenge!
ALBERTA, Ela Mino
Oh Ela! I was so shocked that she did not make the Top 20 last year. I don’t expect that to happen this year. In fact, because MUC has sent Ela to some minor pageant overseas, I’m assuming that they have been prepping her to do well this year, so we should expect to see a stronger, fiercer competitor. Those pageants gave her the experience to build on what she may have been lacking on last year. With that being said, in my opinion, Ela is, if not, the most naturally beautiful delegate competing this year. Her facial beauty is what completely stands out to me. She already has a great body, so I don’t expect to see her falter there. What I would love to see Ela bring to the stage is a more confident and sexy walk. I want her to own the stage like there’s no one else competing. I think that if she has done her homework, Ela will definitely be one to watch out for.
SASKATCHEWAN, Siera Bearchell
Siera is also new to the Miss Universe Canada pageant but comes with loads of experience. After winning the Miss Teen Canada World competition a few years back, I think Siera will be a definite force to reckon with at MUC. She looks like she has a very infectious personality that draws people in. Her look is very commercial, yet versatile that she could pull off any look. In addition, I’ve seen some instagram photos of her physical preparation and the girl has an AMAZING body. Based on those factors alone, she will place. I know for a fact that Siera will have a great team behind her, because I know who her handler is. Her handler is one of the most knowledgeable and amazing people, I’ve met in the Canadian Pageant industry. Siera will be a force to reckon with and because she already possesses the beauty, experience and personality, this should be an easy placement for her.
NOVA SCOTIA, Sarah Ainsley Harrison
Top 12 last year, and hoping to repeat that placement or surpass it, I think that Sarah could very well do that this year. Aside from having such an amazing body, Sarah has a very striking presence and possesses the height to be super competitive. I like Sarah a lot, and I definitely think she will be more prepared this year. In terms of her angles, however, I would like to see her experiment with that, just to avoid highlighting some of her strong features. Overall, Sarah looks very prepared to take on the challenges and looks ready to fight for a Top 5 spot, if the cards align for her.
ONTARIO, Lidija Vaskovic
Lidija in my opinion, is an underdog waiting to pounce. Her official headshot on the website is very deceiving because you cannot really tell what she looks like. After sparking my intrigue, I decided to look her up to see what photos I could find, and this girl is a knock out. In fact, this is her first year competing at MUC, and she totally fits the typical standard that the organization has rewarded in the past. Lidija is the tall, gorgeous, Eastern European who hails from Ontario and that is her biggest advantage. In addition to this, it doesn’t hurt that the girl is stunning, has a great body and looks great in candids. I have a good feeling about her!
ALBERTA, Ashley Callingbull
I am so excited for Ashley Callingbull. I was a huge fan of hers back in 2010, when she had competed against Elena Semikina. Although, Ashley had finished in 3rd place, I was hoping that she would one day make her way back to the MUC stage. After a 2 year hiatus from the pageant, Ashley returns stronger than ever before. I had the opportunity to meet her at Miss World Canada, where she competed against eventual winner, Tara Teng….and I was shocked that Ashley didn’t even make the Top 5. But it all worked out for the best, because in my opinion, Ashley is perfectly suited for Miss Universe. She has the exotic, Indigenous beauty that I know would be super competitive at Miss Universe. She’s has the competitive height, that would easily make her stand out, and to top it all off, she’s been working really hard both mentally and physically for this competition. I think Ashley has a great shot at this title, and there’s absolutely no doubt that she will make the cut.
I’m looking forward to seeing their arrival photos. I’m sure this list will change, but as of now, these are the ladies I can see wearing that MUC crown!
