Why not send girls from the top 10 from last year, as a reward for doing so well at the national level, as a prize for making top 5, anything other than the obvious bias to girls prior to the contest. If I were a delegate spending $10000.00 to compete and found out a fellow delegate was sent to an international competition by the organizers, I would be flipping out. No not if calculate all expenses and time required to prepare such as daily wardrobe gown travelling it can easily cost over 10000 (NT) -- 21:01:47 01/15/09 Thu

Some girls spend that on their wardrobes alone! Some evening gowns cost half that. Then you still need to include things like flights, shoes, accessories, gym membership, tanning, nails, hair, photos, etc etc.. It all adds up very quickly.. (NT) -- -, 16:31:08 01/16/09 Fri

What is the entry fee? I have heard it differs delegate to delegate. I am curious to have delegates input on what they actually paid. I have heard the girls who win 'prelims' go in free or reduced and the girls from Quebec never paid an entry fee...lots of rumours!!! MUC entry fee is about $750-800 and it is responsibility of a contestant to raise that money thru sponsors. In some cases, if you don't raise enough you may pay half of this amount. Anyway, you don't have to spend a fortune for other stuff, so a max of $2,000. Well, you may spend $20K and find yourself in top 40. Some folks here are trying to exaggerate. I know of a contestant who was "recruited" and paid no entry fee at all. I also know a contestant from another province who paid something like $3200-3400 for the entry fee. (I don't remember what the exact number was anymore.). And no, "folks" are not trying to exaggerate the numbers at all. They're telling it like it is! Pageants are expensive!
