Well, with Tara gone, it would be a lot more angsty to have Buffy realize she loves Spike so he can disappear. Then she *and* Willow can be bereft at the beginning of next season. We may need Xander and Anya to get back together to keep us all from slitting our throats. Laurie, I hope you're right about that.

I think this can be done without Spike taking the show away from Buffy. What we've got actually, is the ending lineup in the Bronze in OMWF where Buffy stood stage left, Spike stage right, and Willow stood at center. Spike is starting his own arc over in Africa which may be for the start of S7. And Buffy fights mostly on her own with Willow (and any other BB's that happen to show up). We've all been talking about Anya sacrificing herself for Xander and it may happen that way. But if Spike disappears instead, the final shot will be on Buffy as she confesses her feelings to herself and whoever is around her and begins her summer of suffering. If Anya dies, it will be Xander who gets the last spotlight because he's the chief mourner in that case.

If this happens, it will be quite a switch play. It would mean that ME was both telling the truth and lying at the same time about the season. Just hope we don't get Rocco for our trouble. Unless he's someone Doc tries to bring around while Spike is hanging in another dimension to cause trouble. That would be using Rocco sort of like they used the Buffybot in the opening episode. Rocco could let JM work on the show till Spike returned from whatever dimension he's supposed to be in.
