I found one reference in a letter by John Dolan who commanded A Company to Gavin. In it he sites the attack by the Germans with three tanks which he describes as similar to the "Mark IV type or slightly lighter" and admits to difficulty in identifying the type with any precision. I thought this was interesting as it bears all the earmarks of an honest account. The GI's were not as familiar with the French tank types as they were with the German types. It would seem natural to try to equate them with a Mark IV.

The Account may be accessed at http://www.thedropzone.org/europe/Normandy/dolan.html.

There is more but I have flat on my back with an industrial strength bug for the last four days.

Sorry about the delay.
