Congratulations to Brian Dubie the new Lt. Governor for VT - what an AWESOME accomplishment! My mom said he is such a breath of fresh air. VT and HI both elected republican governors & lt govs! After 40 years of democrats controlling Hawaii, there's a renewed sense of hope here for our economy and school system.

What happended to Anna Aguairre (sp)??? How did she die? I had no idea ... and so sorry to hear about Shawn Rooney's husband ...

Robin Morris and I did get together back in July and haven't seen each other since ... time flies so fast. We'll have to get back in touch.

Kathy O - a daughter at Cornell -- that is terrific -- you must be so proud of her! I imagine the excitement and sadness at the same time could be overwhelming. I don't watch Oprah much but last year she did a show on Moms and how they felt when their "babies" left for college. They all talked about experiencing a sense of loss. It was hard enough for me when my son entered kindergarten -- I can't even begin to imagine the tears when it's college time!

I have been away from VT for over 20 years but lately have missed my growing up days there ... my older kids joke about me growing up in a "bubble world"! Life certainly was less complicated then.

I'll close for now. It was fun catching up on all the news. Keep on chatting :)

Thanks for making your presence known here at our alumni site, Maureen! I envision that as this place catches on, it could become a real help for people longing for a taste of home. At our Lincoln Inn gathering last month, we didn't have a lot of people (only 5 of us), but it was fun to reminisce. I hope this site spurs more of these kinds of events. Do come back often, and spread the word where you can. Your family alone could dramatically increase our numbers if they got involved...

Here's one for ya, how many Essex families of 7 or more kids can you name???

For Maureen (Mo, right?!),

Nice to read your post. I remember you from gymnastics--no, I wasn't a gymnast, but played piano for some of the girls' floor ex. routines!

In junior high, I was very close friends with Anna Aguirre, and we stayed in touch with her family, so I do know a bit about her death. I believe it was a brain aneurysm. In any case, it was sudden and she died much too young. Anna is buried at the Fairview Cemetery in Essex Jct., the cemetery kind of back behind the high school. My father, grandparents, and uncle are in the Rood plot there, and whenever I go to pay my respects on my trips to Vermont, I always stop and say a prayer at Anna's grave, too. In addition, Scott Potter (from my class) and Kim Willey (also from my class) are buried at that cemetery, and honestly, walking from row to row, it's like a trip into the past for me, all these names of Essex Jct. people I knew growing up there.

Anna was a delightful, exuberant soul and I will always remember her giggle and turquoise eyes. She was a character!

Maureen, are you kin to Sean? I knew a Sean Hennesey on South Street in a two (or three) story grey house. I think he lived across the steet from John Kuhn (sp).

I can answer that, Ken. Sean is the oldest and then I think it goes Maureen, Pat, Kevin, and at least two more younger sibs. I can picture her sister, she was a carbon of Maureen, as I remember...

I know Fairview Cemetary well now, as my nephew is buried there. Jim's 1st child, Freddy (Stewart Frederick Prakelt) died of SIDS in June of 2000... very sad. Mrs. Frost, my kindergarten teacher and Pleasant St. neighbor, is also there and Gerry Petrie... Helen

Tom Cutler's family had... 8?

So where is Sean today? I also remember Pat, maybe Kevin. Hellooooo, Maureen?

The Wagners had at least 18, possibly more if you exagerate. Mary (class of '75) was oldest. I met her sister at the last reunion for 75ers in '95. The Wagners lived on Wenonah and probably only had 8 kids.

Is it legal to post two messages in a row?

Helen, is Dave Johnson also buried in Fairview? He was on the varsity b ball squad and died his senior year with Kim. I recall the end of season party at Gullianis' (sp?)camp in '74. It was a grand old time and most parents seemed to have turned the other cheek to that party. What is burned into my memory from that weekend is three or four of us, including Dave, were out on the ice where Dave carved his and Kim's name within a heart. The two of them died about a month later, and I sadly remember, their names were probably melting in the ice at about the same time. God rest their souls.

Ken, I'm almost positive I've seen Dave Johnson's grave at Fairview, as well as Kim's. What an awful sadness we all felt when they died. I was in Kim's grade ('75) and at the time of her death, I remember she and I were paired up to do a French project together in Monsieur Tremblay's class. The day we had all learned about their deaths, we were sitting in class and M. Tremblay was so wonderful with us. He began by talking about Kim and then he let us just be as quiet as we needed to be. He had tears in his eyes, I remember, and after class I talked to him a little bit more. Looking at her empty desk in that class was just so excruciating. I still can't believe how much life each of them had, and how much we didn't want to believe that they were both dead. Awful tragedy. They both were leaders, weren't they? Your story about the heart on the ice, wow, that's beautiful. Thanks for telling it.

Brina. Till this day, I still remember when that incident took place. Down through the years when the subject of CO2 poisoning comes up, the very first thing that comes to my mind, is what happen to Dave Johnson, and Kim Willy, in the spring of 1974. If I'm not mistaken CO2 poisoning is what cause the deaths? I pretty much mentioned to other people in places where I have been , about this. My brother-in-law Jim Wells, mentioned to me that there is memorial for the two that perished? Where is that located?

I think the Wagners had 6 - Mary, Peggy, two brothers and I think two other sisters. The Hennesseys were Sean, Maureen, Keven, Pat, Dennis and Katie. I think that was it. The combined Ladeau (sp?) and Colburn families had quite a few children. I couldn't name them all, though. The Boutin family had 8 kids - Shirley, Linda, Steve, Dave, Rene, Mary, Andrew and Patrick.

Hi Ken! Yes Sean is my older brother! He has 3 beautiful daughters(including a set of identical twins!). He is divorced but soon to be married on Jan 4th to a really NICE woman. Kevin is in Phoenix and married with 3 wonderful kids. Pat is living in MA at this time working as a journeyman plumber. Then there's Dennis, Mike and Kate!!!

Dave Johnson is buried in South Burlington, on Hinesburg Road I think, but I can't remember the name of the cemetery. Kim and Dave's deaths had an incredible impact on my life...to this day I go visit Mrs Willey when I am home. For so long after they died I wondered if we lived only to die, and then Lisa Duff introduced me to that verse that you see so often on tv: John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that He gave His only son that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." If you wonder if there's a God and if He has a plan for you, know that there is and that He does ... just ask Him to show Himself to you. You'll be amazed.

My husband and I were riding our bikes last weekend and stopped to talk to some people who were opening a new dive shop in the town we live in ... turns out the shop's owner is Briggs Christie, EJHS class of '78! How's that for a small world!

weather here is in the 70's ... what can I say?! Believe it or not, sunshine gets boring. I actually miss the snow during the Holidays; it's just not Christmas without it! Patti, some of my best memories are skiing Bolton Valley our 6th grade year -- riding on the bus, skiing under the lights, hot chocolate in the lodge, playing the juke box ... life was good! :)

we did have a Ladeau family in Essex, Theresa, but that was a long way from Woodstock! They lived in the Indian Acres development, I believe, which may have been re-named the Native American Acres, by now?

By the way, thanks for visiting our site Theresa! I myself graduated from high school in Essex Junction 30 years ago this June! 1976 was quite a year, I think. If I'd been more present, I might even remember what was going on that year; all i was aware of at the time was that i was getting out of high school, finally! We must of had a president and a foriegn policy, but I can't for the life of me remember much. i guess i'll "google it" and see. Meanwhile, there must be some people out there that do remember something about that year, what was happening, where they were...feel free to chime in, anyone!
