Gosh steve, I'm sure not giving any flak about the lack of Monoloops for the Infinium.

I agree with you fully as with a PI-type gold machine the monos are often/sometimes(?) a better choice over a DD in the Cordillera. They seem to go a little deeper and are more sensitive to smaller targers than a corresponding DD. Whereas, with a VLF-type, the DD's seem to handle the more mineralized areas in the Cordillera, but are still not as sensitive to smaller gold as the Concentrics.

However, I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your Garrett. Maybe it was defective? The comment about it "eating batteries" gives a clue that your Infinium could have had problems. I have kept a close watch on this as I do not like to use batteries that are not up to full power.

I do not use rechargeables (maybe this was a source of you battery problem), possibly a weak cell in the pack?

I don't have-- nor want--- the rechargeable battery pack. Over the years I have always avoided rehargeable packs. I only use non-rechageable alkali, and Mallory at that. I have been impressed by the Infiniums battery life. And replace the batteriesw when they drop down and just register at the "good line" with my tester. (I have two great- granddaughters with battey powered toys that I move the batteries back to.)

Actually, I have two Infiniums (but then I still have three Fisher Motherlode 660's--- .) One Infinium I bought from Alaska Mining and Diving; the other I traded an ounce and a half of Nevada eluvial gold for. (And if someone wants to give me a super-good deal, I'll consider going for a third)

One Infinium is used as a cuffmount and hooked up to the 10x14-inch DD. The other is a chestmount and hooked up to the Australian made nearly circular 10-inch DD. I also have a pigtail (just one) adapter to boot up any headphone.

Steve, since you had trouble with the shaft flexing, I know that you are "tall." (The Sherlock Holmes in me.) If the lower shaft is extended out to either of the top two adjustments, the 10x14 being heavy, tends to wobble. I'm not that tall and use three from the top and no flexing. However, the Australian is very lightweight and a dream to swing all day and could be used with the longer shaft adjustment but I have not experimented.

I also agree about "discriminiation," and do not use it. It is too easy to miss a low conductive nugget. The only discrimination I rely on is the supermagnet on my pick.

I'm pretty familiar with the Minelab 2000, 2100, and 2200d and agree the Minelab 2200d is a good choice. I used one for three years. However, I have seen some very impressive finds made with the 2100 hooked up to the 12x24 Coiltek. I have not used the Extreme but little and personally cannot comment on it, but Rob Allison has sure done well with it.

Now the following comments are for anyone out there: The "PI-types," whatever they may be, are just another choice. The "VLF-types" have done well over the past 25 some years OF "nuggetshooting." (I believe it was Ken White, Sr., who coined the phrase "Electonic Prospector" back in the 1960's, however he was refering to a BFO).

As the "PI-types" improve, they will become more widely used. However it is not "what machine." It is not the machine that is important; it is the operator, their skill and determination. Unfortunately no machine can find gold if it does not exist.

So believe in whatever your choice of machine. Learn it. Just know the next signal will be a gold nugget. Eventually it will. However, it cannot find gold if not used.
