Subject: Garrett Infinium Accessory Coils Availability
In reply to: jim straight 's message, "Re: Garrett Infinium Accessory Coils" on 19:17:23 03/25/03 Tue

Hi Jim,

OK, I just got the go-ahead from Garrett to talk. I've been testing prototype 7" DD elliptical and 10" DD elliptical coils for the Infinium. They look just like the VLF elliptical coils.

The good news is that it looks like both are slated for production. The bad news is that it may not be until fall before we see them. As with the mono coils I would not be holding my breath. They will get here when they get here.

The 10" coil is really sweet. Very light, much easier to pinpoint with, and little loss of depth compared to the 14" DD. It has about the same sensitivity to small items. It was a pleasure to use and I would buy one in a heartbeat. With the control box hip mounted it was like using my Gold Bug 2 hip mounted. Super light coil and rod only. Great!

The 7" is a tad more sensititive to small items, but do not look for VLF sensitivity. Still, I feel this will be the "small gold" as much because you can get it right down close in rough terrain/holes/crevices that the bigger coils must hover well over. The price is a significant loss of ground coverage and overall depth versus the larger coils. But again, this is a coil I'd have for sure. It should be a great little coin sniper also!

Both coils are rock-solid as far as falsing goes. No problems scraping the ground and knocking small rocks aside. Both will have coil covers available since they are using existing molds and covers. These coils were a surprise as all the focus has been on the mono coils... which also should see the light of day soon.

So by the end of summer it is possible there will be up to five different coil options for the Infinium... 14" DD elliptical, 14" mono elliptical, 8" mono round, 7" DD elliptical, and 10" DD elliptical.
