Yea, you might say that. I got to do some of the prototype field testing on the X-5, and was very impressed with it from the start. But there have been several design improvements through the R&D stage, and even Dave Johnson says the X-5 may be the next contender for ALL VLF TYPE GOLD MACHINES. On top of that, it has full-range discrimination circuitry and a saltwater beach mode, making it one of the few true "all-purpose" detectors out there that will go heads up with the best of them from any other manufacturer. The discrimination circuits on this thing are some of the absolute best I've ever seen, bar none. One of my favorite discrimination tests is to take a large rusty square nail, discriminate it out, and then place a broken thin womans gold band around the nail. The X-5 hit on it every time, no problem. During field testing, I also found a piece of lead buckshot positioned inside an old rusty fence staple. The rust from the staple had entirely covered the shot, but the X-5 still hit on it. Once the shot was pried out of the staple, the staple could no longer be detected.

As far as range is concerned, air tests are good only as an indicator of what any specific machine "may" be capable of in ideal conditions, and you can almost always expect some decrease in depth when ground mineralization comes into play. Still, there are not many machines out there with the inherent possibilities that I've seen in the X-5. Troy Galloway has put alot into this one, and from what I've seen going through R&D, talking alot with Troy and others involved on a regular basis along the way, the X-5 has a good shot at being the "best of the best" once it hits the market. Having seen the prototype go heads up against several others, including the Tesoro LST (which the X-5 put to shame), this machine is going to be turning some industry heads.......

Here's a link for pics and specs on the X-5
