Steve, have you gotten to try the Hot Foot yet? From personal experience the Hot Foot gives MUCH better signals on sug-grain nuggets than does the standard DD. Thus it would probably (more or less) equal that 6" coil you tested. Those of you who haven't yet tried the Hot Foot would be amazed how well it "cranks" on little specks of AU. I feel that it IS the small coil we are looking for. As for GMT set up: SAT at 10 gives the best combination of smoothest threshold AND sharpest response on targets. To somewhat avoid the "spikey" (rough) threshold sound lower the threshold to REALLY BARELY AUDIBLE. No, NOT to silent, just to barely audible. ALSO: gain settings up to 8 offer progressively greater depth; however, gain settings OVER 8 "freeze" the power at 8, but enhance the audio signal by using audio boost. Thus a gain setting of 9 is really a gain setting of 8 with (probably) 2X audio signal boost. A gain setting of 10 is really a gain setting of 8 with 4X audio boost. The audio boost DOES help find those little targets, but you gotta get used to the "angry bee" in your headphones. Hope this helps. HH Jim
