I think the differences in the actual performance in the coils mentioned would be in their pinpointing capabilities, ability to run a little higher gain levels, and their physical "shape" for getting into some of those tighter places. Those were the marked differences I remember in the GoldFoot coil in comparison to the earler eliptical concentrics of the V-Sat and earlier goldmasters. The GoldFoot was really the first time the (commercially available) double-D configuration had been used on the goldmasters, and it did allow some level of additional gain levels which made a noticeable difference in smaller and deeper targets. That is the norm for and the best reason to use the double-D designs in heavier mineralized areas.

As far as the GM's iron I.D. with the HotFoot coils, it shouldn't make much of a difference since the I.D. works off of a combination phase shift and phase amplitude (overload) where the target itself is concerned. It MIGHT help though in preventing the machine from false I.D.s on smaller nuggets in hotter soils, again because of the very narrow footprint of the little coil seeing less of the background mineralization.
