Hi O.T.,

The HotFoot, having a much narrower footprint like you describe, might indeed "see between" the hotrocks better, and might even help alleviate some of the signals from milder positive or negative hot rocks. But for the most part, if the rocks are of any significance, you are still going to detect them, because the HotFoot's footprint is narrowed in the same direction as the coil movement. So in other words, you are still covering basically the same or similar swath of ground on each swing. But where the ground mineralization is concerned, you could expect more stable operation and less ground noise because "at any one point" during that swing, the coil is only "seeing" a certain amount of background mineralization. Comparing the HotFoot to a standard concentric coil, or even a true double-D, the electromagnetic field is much narrower, more like the edge of a knife blade in comparison to a rounded nose cone shaped field. While each swing is covering a comparable area, the advantage is shown by the very small "slice" of ground actually being detected by the HotFoot in comparison to the concentric or standard double-D. So you see, there is a definate advantage and reasoning behind the shape of the HotFoot coil as far as practical performance is concerned.

BUT, in real-world terms, and for any particular area or conditions, you can consider all of the "theory" and conjecture until you're blue in the face. Only getting out there with that particular coil on your particular machine will tell you if it is going to improve your machine's performance, stability, and ABILITY to find more gold.

Ralph
