Subject: New Garrett Nugget Detector

Hi All,

Garrett has long been rumored to be working on a new PI gold detector to compete with the Minelab units.

Phil from the Gold Mining Centre in Australia just made a post on the new unit at the Finders Forum. Apparently he has been involved in testing the unit in Australia. He says that:

"The unit has been tested in Australia and has already found gold during its testing period.

The detector is a pulse induction unit (commonly known as pulse period sensing). It is fully microprocessor controlled and has automatic ground tracking.

The unit is powered by a 12 volt regulated power supply.

The unit will be able to be hipmounted, for lightness and ease of operation.

Initially, it will come with a 14" DD coil. Other coils will be available.

More information on this unit and coil structure, will be released shortly on their website, goldminingcentre.com.au "

I for one have long awaited an entry by the US manufacturers in this field. In particular, Garrett is long overdue to awaken from their slumber. No new new nugget detecting circuit from them since the 15 kHz Ground Hog (repackaged several times) about 25 years ago!

I always thought this was odd, as the Ground Hog really was one of the first nugget detectors, and that Charles Garrett wrote lots of books and articles popularizing nugget detecting. He went on and on about "Electronic Prospecting". And then they dropped out of the field in terms of product development. Weird.

I think perhaps Garrett has realized that Minelab has leveraged their nugget detecting expertise into a multi-million dollar mine detecting business. Garrett may well be looking to do the same thing.

I've been calling my Garrett contacts for the last year. I kept getting told "next month" so many times I gave up expecting the machine this year, especially after it was left out of the new catalog. But now it may finally see the light of day!
