Hi Nenad,

The little Tesoro Diablo uMax was one of my favorite nugget detectors for many years. It's operation is smooooth compared to most of the other VLFs on the market, but since they have been out of production now for about 2 years (?) you may have difficulties in finding one. The snesitivity and depth of the Diablo uMax is not quite up to par with the GM series machines, but about equal to the original Gold Bug. This is probably an advantage in some areas, since the lower sensitivity of the machine can help with hot ground mineralization. The little hot-rock balancing mode also comes in handy, and was really a unique feature to the Diablo uMax in it's time.

Overall, I think Tesoro would do well to consider re-introducing the Diablo uMax as an "entry level" gold detector, since such a machine is pretty much non-existant from any of the manufacturers. Just a basic little uMax capable of high gain and ground balancing (even without the hot-rock mode) at a fair lower end price would be snapped up in the current market I would think. They had (still have) a good circuit design in the Diablo uMax, and it's really a shame to see it sit idle. I pushed one of those little machines around for a few years, and always look back at it as one of the best out there, even though I moved on to a GM-3 three years ago for my primary gold machine here in the states. The Diablo uMax though was one of the easiest to operate and keep stable in bad ground.

Ralph
