In reply to: Bunnyhunny 's message, "My Lion" on 15:26:11 01/05/04 Mon

For those of you who are unaware, Bunnyhunny visited us twice during the past couple of years. The first time was just before the lion was diagnosed and she knew I was freaking out about getting him to the doctor. She and Erin and Megan slept in the bed and the Lion slept in his recliner, as he'd had to do for about 6 weeks. He would get a reprieve shortly thereafter when he had a liter of fluid drained from his chest and could once again lie flat. She and her husband and youngest daughter would visit us once again and the Lion insisted he take them to his favorite local haunt - Stone Mountain, where we watched the laser show. He would go one more time after that and wear his blouse and cover, the former, the original pieced back together, and the latter, his new. He stood and cried when someone behind him said, "Welcome home, Marine." He didn't get that when he came home from Nam. Somewhere around here, I have a card from the chaplain at Subic with a note to those who helped him with his rehab in the Phillipines that begs for help for this man who they told would be a paraplegic. He fought that and he continued to fight to stay alive right up until he died. He didn't want to go. I didn't want him to go. But I knew he would not win this battle.
