Subject: Thirteen days times 2

This morning is the first time in 13 days that we've not had to jump out of bed and rush to leave for treatments at the doctor's office or the hospital. That routine just about wiped ME out and I'm not the one who is sick. We have 8 days off, then start another 13 days of hell. The lion has been very close to giving up, folks. The doctor tells us that next week's 3-day course of chemo will be his last.

And then what? I guess we just pray for some time when he can feel strong enough to do some of the things he'd like to do. He counts days. Today he will wake up and say, "182 days." I think back to yesterday, the 183rd day, and try to remember things that made living that day worthwhile and special. When the Lion reached out, my hand was there for him to hold. We met someone new ~ a good ol' Southern boy who made me smile because he reminded me so much of Wildman Barry and there was a feeling of camaraderie there that is hard to describe. If you know any of these good ol' boys, then you already know what I mean. There was a little male moment between the 2 men when he asked the lion about his truck. I noticed and that made me smile, too. Ayo leaping, flying, and bouncing on furniture entertained us as it always does when he pulls these stunts. Bowls of fruit cocktail and applesauce almost finished are a real accomplishment these days, They are a step above liquids, and it gives us hope that there might be at least one more dinner at Famous Dave's or Frontera.

This morning, Day 182, began with a smile from the lion as I relayed a message from one of my daughters. We were able to sit together on the edge of the bed and watch scenes from Bob Hope's life as Laf gave Ayo his morning belly rub. These little moments have become precious to both of us and we both hope that all of you take the time to appreciate and celebrate similar moments in your own lives.
