I received the following email from Sage.... it has been edited... but I thought ya'll would want to know... Please, Laf and Sage, don't get mad at me for posting this... we all love you here!

It is 2:10 p.m. Friday. I'm on the computer in the library at the Medical College. J is getting his first chemo treatment as I write this. I told him I found this computer last night and to write out a post and I will post it for him. I think I can only get on this computer until 6 p.m., so whatever he writes may not get posted until tomorrow. It's been a very rough week.

We were with the anesthesiologist for 6 hours Monday. J was in the OR for 3 hours for his biopsy on Tuesday morning. It is small cell carcinoma. They gave him a heavy dose of radiation immediately Tuesday afternoon. His throat was almost completely closed up. He had radiation for the next 2 days.. He is getting to be extremely well known here...either for his jokes or because he yelled at somene for something ~ sigh.

He'd been put in Surgical ICU after recovery from biopsy, then was given a private room on the 5th floor, but the morning after our first night on the 5th floor, some little twit put betadine on J's hand (with signs on the door and above his bed saying "NO IODINE. NO BETADINE. NO IV DYE). J ended up on the floor and they had to call code. They put him back in SICU. They are going to put him on the 6th floor either tonight or tomorrow.

He will be sent home Monday or Tuesday, depending on how he's doing. Will get radiation and chemo every 3 weeks...there may be temporary remission or even a few of them. It can be cured, but it's not the way it usually goes. And of course, there is the bypass he needs.
