I hope this adds a little levity to the situation here. I do apologize to everyone for the recent flareup between a poster and me. I just cannot stomach bigotry of any kind and refuse to back down when someone says things that are simply hate speech not backed up by facts.. just vitriolic, senseless bile and partisanship.
A number of on-line sites have been having contests of late regarding the situation in the Disunited Nations... especially the hate-America intransigence of France, Germany and Russia. Though our annual budget for contest prizes was used up long ago (12:01 AM EST, January 2th, 2003, to be exact) I thought we would just do this and to heck with prizes.
It all started when Martin Sheen and Barbara Streissand each made idiotic public statements recently about how dificult it would be for the United States to "go to war with Iraq without the aid of the French government and its citizens." Yeah! Right!
They were discussing something we have had to do inside the borders of their own country in at least two World Wars now. My thought was that going to war without the French would be like going fishing without a tuxedo. We would most likely do a lot better without them than we could with their help and "support." If this situation were to be anything like what happened when we liberated Paris in World War II, we would have to destroy all of Iraq, then wait for several days on the outskirts of Baghdad while the current Charles DeGaulle, Jacques Chiraq (It's the spelling I will use for the man's name from now on - to hell with how he spells it. My way is more accurate), travels to the outskirts of Baghdad in comfort, then leads a parade of French troops in sparklingly clean uniforms and only then finally permit the real liberators - the US, Britain and a number of other countries into the city.
Therefore, kiddies, here is your assignment. Fill in the blank and see what you can come up with to complete the thought...
Going to war without France would be like... (make up your own analogy).
Post your submissions here. We'll have a vote on whose submission is the best one. We can give only maudlin recognition and perhaps one of my left over nitro pills for a prize. That's about it for our prize budget for the remainder of the year, but it ought to be fun anyway.
I see the stats and I know who has been here to read, but doesn't post. I know that Ron, Bar, Herb, Mysticsis, Draggie, Bunny and Secretary Sage as well as a whole bunch of others can come up with some zingers. Let's have it guys! Nola, Debi and Hope, that means you as well.
By the way, if you agree that we could not be successful in the prosecution of the disarmament of Iraq by military force without the "support" and "help" of the French, then let your entry reflect that thinking as well. I guarantee you the right to say that here, however, I do not guarantee that someone won't react by saying that you are a maunderer.
