I didnt get to see the original Skynyrd but I love them and especially RVZ I am going to see them on 28th May 2009 in Birmingam NIA I cant wait I have waited over 30 years to see them. After that very black day on 20th October 1977 I didnt think I ever would so it will be a dream come true. They are one of the greatest bands of all time and I am tired of people pidgeon holing them "southern rock" they are far more expansive than that. RIP Ronnie,Steve,Cassie and Dean, FLY ON FREEBIRDS.

I was there in 76 but didn't carry a camera. Are there any pictures posted on the web?

I was there, sat right infront of the mixer with about 30 of my friends from up north. It was the "degenerates summer outing". We were flying a flag of a sausage wearing a boot kicking seven bells out of a fridge (good times)
My lasting memory is of Ronnie VZ and the guitars climbing over the rope which was supposed to stop any of the artists going into Jaggers reserved space. He stood there, flanked by Gary and Allen while the solos' in freebird made our eyes water and our ears bleed.
That is what it was all about. Things never really seemed the same after that.
Amen

I had a vhs video of the show which was produced by Cabin Fever Entertainment. I have since lost it several years ago and haven't been able to find it since. It's an awesome video of the entire Skynyrd set. There HAS to be copies of it somewhere!!

Hi, I have the video you are looking for which i bought when I used to run my music video business.
I can make a copy of this onto a dvd if you want.
THE VIDEO IS CALLED: FREEBIRD THE MOVIE and is no longer available. I got it from someone in the USA about 10 years ago. Please let me know if you want a copy. I was lucky to be there at knebworth in 76'. All the best - Pete.

Three of us from the nearby shitty town of Stevenage sneaked into Knebworth free that year. My memories are vague except to say Skynrd definitely kicked the Stones butts. My own musical interests went in all directions after this and I left the town well behind but I always rememember this festival. Got the LS greatest hits from the library recently - real sad about the band's demise but the music is still powerful. Would love to see the crowd footage too.

It was a really heavy gig,Lynyrd were red hot...We walked in for free, spent most of the time smoking endless joints and chillums. The real downer was fucking 10cc delaying the show by two and a half hours just to do some lame recording....As a result loads of people missed the last train back to London and stayed all night. The Stones played for over two hours until 2:00 a.m.

I agree - that 2 hour wait because of 10CC drove me bananas - especially as it obviously never occurred to them that not everyone there were exactly interested in seeing them. Their set was even duller than the 2 hour wait (I thought). Didn't some naked guy get up at that point and masturbate on the stage? Or was that the previous year? The Knebworth Chronicles say something about a "naked man dancing onstage and falling off and breaking his ankles", but I distinctly remember a Policeman escorting him away and a poor guy with a mop and bucket cleaning the stage afterwards... yuk!

To add insult to injury hideous 10cc started with an extra turgid version of "One Night in Paris" and as for the character who wacked off on stage it was definately that gig...it was during the afternnon and he stood at the front of the tongue. The whole crowd cheered when he reached his peak!!! Mick was rolling about on the stage later (see youtube) so lets hope they cleaned it up properly.
