David, a couple of us here have discussed your question.

Basically, we can't provide you with a black and white answer without knowing more details about your situation.

For example, do you work for 3 months as an employee or as a contractor?

Different circumstances would dictate different advice.

If, for example, you were an employee, then salary packaging your travel and accommodation costs could be the way to go.

If you are a contractor, then setting up the company as you described could be the best option.

Perhaps you could seek a private ruling re your itinerant status?

What you need to do is to sit down and discuss this with a fairly senior accountant so he/she can work out what the best scenario for you and your partner would be.

Sorry this isn't a definite yes/no answer, but I believe it is the best we can do under the circumstances.
