Thanks for you second wave of replies :)

2. No - no matter how hard I tried I couldn't 'select' the node & all child nodes below it. Once the red X was there, it was there for good.

3. A I mentioned in my earlier post, I was performing tree surgery at the time I got the errors (inc the one abend); In the most recent case it was performing multiple 'select/deselect' operations.

5. Agreed - to a point. A folder is a living breathing entity. What fits today may not fit tomorrow. Not too sure how you'd work around this one though...

7. My real folder tree was a tad bit more comprehensive than illustrated: The better part of 50 subfolders plus more than 2,000 files (the master parent folder has 6,000 files in 145 folders) if thats any help.
