An archive is used as a drag-and-drop copy of folders/files. However if you're using CD (CD-R or CD-RW) you still get the benefits of dynastic backup technology - i.e. access to any session on disk - and therefore to all versions of a file - PLUS you see the latest version of all files visible in the last session (don't forget to turn on Continue multi-session in Preferences to achieve this).

An archive on DVD (DVD-R or DVD-RW) can only be a single session - you can't write multi-session to DVD at present.

A backup in WatchetBurn! is an incremental backup with a difference - it only writes new or changed files but you can see the latest version of EVERY file in the latest session just as if you had backed them all up at once. And, of course, you can retrieve multiple versions of a file too. Retrieval can be drag-and-drop from the latest session or you can search/restore via the SQL database feature.
