Subject: Weeks Nine & Ten

Sorry I haven't checked in the last two weeks, but life got away from me. Anyway, for week 8 we had a short 6-mile run to recover from the 12-mile run the previous week.

I decided to do that run on my own because it was an easy one to make up. Oh, okay, I'll admit it--I actually just wanted to sleep in that day and decided I could miss the run. I made it up later that night. Let me just say that I did some seriously good sleeping that Sunday morning. *sigh* I miss sleeping in.

For week ten--the big 14-miler--I was away on vacation. I planned to try to make up the run on my own. I went online and found a suitable bike/running path to use and got up early on July 4 to do the run. I did wonder if I'd be able to do the whole 14 miles without my pace group or any of the perks of the training site, such as water stops, bathroom breaks, etc. Most challenging was the weather--it was very hot and humid that day! Killer heat. And then there was that pesky quad muscle that keeps hurting when I do the long runs. All in all, I was not overly confident that I could do the whole 14-miles, but I decided to give it a try.

Long story short, I made it to mile 7 before deciding that the whole 14-miles just wasn't going to happen that day. :-(

Next week there will be a 7-mile recovery run then a 16-mile long run the following week. That means I'll have to jump from 12 to 16 miles, which will be challenging.

Oh, I almost forgot! I almost hate to mention this for fear of jinxing it, but my shin splints seem to be GONE!!! They haven't bothered me at all for the last few runs and they haven't hurt when they usually do (like when I go down stairs). I'm ridiculously excited about this! I've lived with these stupid splints since February. Pleeeeease don't let them return.
